Improvements Over Time With Etsy

A Challenge To Grow
It has been a skill changing experience for me to start designing and creating my own stuff for Etsy.com. I have, after three years reached a higher level of skill because of the constant churning out of product to keep growing my inventory as well as my 'crochet palette.'

Earlier work
I have been delightfully surprised by the change in both appearance and levels of difficulty in the projects that I have decided to take on. Each new production carries with it a new level of skill achieved in design as well as execution and I am really happy I decided to open up a shop!

I love to crochet, I guess that's obvious. What may not be quite so overt are the deeply personal reasons for wanting to continue on this journey and learn as many new techniques, tricks and skills as I possibly can. Stepping out from following a pattern to actually breathing life into your own creation can definitely lead one down the path fraught with tension like a tempest-tossed sea, or as slow, planned and serene as a canoe ride down a still riverbank.

At first, the things I stitched were safe, mere echoes of past patterned projects that were "hits" with the F&F crowd and boy did they all make me feel good, especially my niece/goddaughter. I am sure she had to deal with more than a few "it-must-have-looked-good-in-the-picture" type of projects in her time.

I am so happy I made this decision. Whatever the outcome, I am loving this journey.

WoolleyWeaves Is Now On Etsy.com

It has been a long time since my last post. I honestly have been trying to decide whether or not this will work. I have come to realize that the only way my business is going to work is if I put a full time effort into it and promote like crazy!

By the way, check out these fingerless gloves I designed. They are on www.Etsy.com along with other great gift ideas for the holidays. You can follow my projects and like my Facebook Page too! I would be so fabulously grateful for that.

So...today I am embarking on a new course of action and will try to grow my business as much as I am able with the limited amount of funds I have.

I suppose I should start by saying that I have no followers to my blog yet. It's as if I am writing a diary to myself. It would be great to start somewhere. Today, I am conducting a crochet workshop for all types. I have someone who has always wanted to learn how to create lacy things and someone who is totally new to the art and craft of crochet. There's also someone who has always wanted to crochet hats. I am really excited about this and hope that I can continue to spread the art of crochet to others. I not only want to share my projects and promote my site, I want to share with you, dear reader, the struggles as well as the successes that I have with this endeavor. I will be honest, I am starting this because I am having so much trouble finding a job. There's so much I can do, I have so many marketable skills but nothing seems to be working out for me so I am taking a huge risk by doing this. I hope that it becomes successful, in fact, at this point, I am banking on it.

If you would like a copy of this particular pattern. You may email me @ woolleyweaves@gmail.com with the request.

Hello & Welcome!

woolleyweaves@gmail.com

This is my first blog of the crochet work that I do. Although I have been crocheting for a long time, I have just started to design my own stuff. My hope is that not only will people find my creations irresistible but that other crocheters will find ideas for their own designs. I hope this will be a true exchange of thoughts, ideas, musings, and dialogue as well as commerce.

I love to crochet. I find it soothes me when I am anxious, helps me to cope when things get hard and gives me a sense of pride through accomplishment. Each piece I work on is unique and even though there maybe similarities; each piece is created with something slightly different, so no two pieces are exactly alike.

I decided to start my own line of accessories and accents because I grew very tired of the "mass production" of things and the poor quality that exists in mass produced items. The care and pride in crafting items has all but disappeared and most things purchased now are extremely disposable or have a short lifespan.

At WoolleyWeaves each piece created was meant to last a long time; to be handed down from generation to generation and never go out of style. Things may go in and out of fashion, but a classic piece never goes out of style.

We also work on heirloom restoration, commissions and will be adding sections for the holiday seasons. I can also post how each project is developing so you can see, in an interactive way, the process of creating your unique "Weave."

As time goes on, I will be creating new things and posting them online. The uniqueness of WoolleyWeaves is that you can pick an item and specify what color you would like it in, whether or not to add embellishments like glass or wooden beads, crocheted edgings, or sequins. We will work with you to create the fabric, wrap, bedspread, or accessory of your dreams. Or, if you really like something in it's simplest form, you can always purchase it "as is." No other designer does this.
